2008 Tow Trucks for Tots Parade : On November 9th, 2008, Towing Companies from all over Northern Illinois got up early (and I mean early) Sunday morning, fired up there shiny tow trucks that they spent all day Saturday getting ready, secured all of the Christmas gifts they collected for the Toys for Tots and headed to the Empress Casino in Joliet for the 1st annual "Tow Truck for Tots" toy drive and parade. The snow showers and cold wind did not dampen the spirits of all the drivers that made the trip down for this excellent cause. Worldwide Equipment put this event together and it turned out excellent. The tow truck parade left Joliet and ended up at Toyota Park in Bridgeview. I don't know how many trucks there were but is was between 250 and 300. The parade streched for miles. Except for the wet roads getting my truck dirty and the dark skies making photography very difficult, it was a very good time. Seeing the dump trucks filling up with toys was a great feeling. 2009 Tow Truck For Tots Parade : The second annual Tow Truck for Tots parade and toy drive was held on 11/8/09 and was a huge success. This year 309 tow trucks showed up in support of the kids and from the amount of over full Bridgeview dump trucks I would say we had three times the toys that were collected last year. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time (except for the people sitting in traffic). Like last year I met up with all of my fellow Lake County towers at the Army Trail toll-plaza and from there we had a 30 truck convoy down to the Joliet CAT plant. The parade traveled from the CAT plant to Toyota Park in Bridgeview. This year our State Police escort has us really moving down the Interstate. Once we jumped off the Interstate the Bridgview, Chicago and State police had every intersection closed so we could sail right through. I was told that the parade was over 8 miles long.
